Prediction of Stage, Grade, and Survival in Bladder Cancer Using Genome Wide Expression Data: A Validation Study.

No Comments   Posted by Doctor |  Category:Treatment

CONCLUSION: We conclude that gene expression signatures with >150 genes predict muscle-invasive growth and high-grade tumors with robust accuracies. Special considerations have to be taken when designing gene signatures for outcome in bladder cancer. Clin Cancer Res; 16(17); 4421-33. (c)2010 AACR.

Observational study: Adjuvant chemotherapy following radical cystectomy may benefit the highest risk patients?

Area: News
According to the findings of a retrospective analysis, the use of adjuvant chemotherapy (AC) after radical cystectomy is of benefit to patients with high-risk bladder cancer.

The authors note that there is evidence to suggest a survival advantage with AC following radical cystectomy; however limited conclusions can be drawn from this due to methodological issues and small sample sizes.  Because of this the routine use of AC has not gained widespread acceptance.  They decided to research this area further by conducting a multicentre observational study.

Data from patients with a diagnosis of transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder treated with radical cystectomy and lymphadenectomy at one of 11 i… Source: MedWorm: Bladder Cancer

Conclusions
The authors conclude that LMS-UB occurs in older adults of either sex and is characterised by aggressive behaviour, with adverse outcome in >60% of cases. Certain advantages of the FNCLCC system may support its more widespread adoption for future studies. (Source: Journal of Clinical Pathology) Source: MedWorm: Bladder Cancer
