Non-muscle invasive bladder cancer with concomitant vaginal urothelial carcinoma: a case report and review of the literature

No Comments   Posted by Doctor |  Category:Treatment

Abstract  A 74-year-old female was referred to our hospital for non-muscle invasive bladder tumors initially treated at another hospital.
Preoperatively, computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated non-muscle invasive bladder tumors and a vaginal
tumor. A second transurethral resection of the bladder tumors, transvaginal tumor resection, and systemic chemotherapy were
performed. The histopathological appearances of both tumors were very similar and the diagnoses were urothelial carcinoma
(UC). The pathogenesis of the vaginal UC was considered to be the primary UC or metastasis from the bladder UC. Vaginal UC
is extremely rare and this is only the 15th report in the literature.

The application of adjuvant autologous antravesical macrophage cell therapy vs. BCG in non-muscle invasive bladder cancer: a multicenter, randomized trial

No Comments   Posted by Doctor |  Category:Treatment

IntroductionWhile adjuvant immunotherapy with Bacille Calmette Guerin (BCG) is effective in non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (BC), adverse events (AEs) are considerable. Monocyte-derived activated killer cells (MAK) are discussed as essential in antitumoural immunoresponse, but their application may imply risks. The present trial compared autologous intravesical macrophage cell therapy (BEXIDEM(R)) to BCG in patients after transurethral resection (TURB) of BC.Material and Methods:This open-label trial included 137 eligible patients with TaG1-3, T1G1-2 plurifocal or unifocal tumours and [greater than or equal to] 2 occurrences within 24 months and was conducted from June 2004 to March 2007. Median follow-up for patients without recurrence was 12 months. Patients were randomized to BCG or …

Preoperative Mitomycin-C Instillation Decreases Risk Of Non-Muscle Invasive Bladder Cancer

No Comments   Posted by Doctor |  Category:Treatment

A single pre-operative intravesical electromotive (EMDA) instillation of mitomycin-C (MMC) improves a patient’s risk of non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) recurrence more than a single post-operative intravesical passive instillation, according to new research from investigators in Italy. This preventive measure can also enhance a patient’s disease-free interval. These data was presented during the 105th Annual Meeting of the American Urological Association (AUA)… (Source: Health News from Medical News Today)

Patterns of questionable quality care in nonmuscle invasive bladder cancer

No Comments   Posted by Doctor |  Category:Treatment

Understanding those factors associated with the rising cost of bladder cancer care may inform guidelines dedicated to defining the best bladder cancer practices. In the care of noninvasive bladder cancer patients, we have yet to define the services that are being underutilized or overutilized. (Source: Cancer) Source: MedWorm: Bladder Cancer
