Walk will honor mother, raise funds for research BY PATRICIA A. MILLER Staff Writer Like most daughters, Nicole Tuscano liked to buy her mother gifts and send her cards on special days. Study Type [ndash] Therapy (case series)Level of Evidence 4 To report the heterogeneity in the treatment of patients with cT1 urothelial carcinoma by different surgeons, and to report outcomes in patients with and without bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) treatment. We retrospectively reviewed 396 patients who had undergone a re-staging transurethral resection (TUR) for cT1 bladder cancer. We assessed both differences in the treatment by surgeon, and the association of early treatment with BCG with recurrence, progression and bladder cancer-specific death. Muscle was captured in the re-staging TUR specimen in a median of 76% of patients (range 50[ndash]94 when stratified by surgeon). On multivariable analysis there was significant heterogeneity among surgeons in the use of early cystectomy (… Source: MedWorm: Bladder Cancer

Mar
No Comments   Posted by Doctor |  Category:Treatment

Recently, two genome-wide association studies identified a significant association between the prostate stem cell antigen (PSCA) rs2294008 (C>T) polymorphism and risk of diffuse-type of gastric cancer in Asians and bladder cancer in Caucasians, respectively. PSCA has been reported highly expressed in bladder cancer and been considered as a useful marker for diagnosis and progression of bladder cancer. To determine whether rs2294008 polymorphism is associated with risk of bladder cancer in Chinese populations, we conducted a hospital-based case–control study of 581 cases and 580 controls. Sixteen normal bladder tissues adjacent to tumors were used to evaluate the functionality of this polymorphism. We genotyped the rs2294008 polymorphism and assessed its association with risk of bl…
